Sister Farley

Sisters,
(this is a note from Sister Andrews...)
I just got an email from Sister Susan Farley.
She is having knee surgery on May 13Th.
I just thought it would be great if she
got lots of get well letters or emails.
Let us shower her with love from the warm and dry Arizona, that she, no doubt misses just a tiny bit.

Thanks, Sisters, you are the best!

Summer Movie Fun

The only news that will help you to forget the scorching AZ heat is coming is the notion that it also brings Summer Movie Fun.

Summer Movie Fun is a program that is offered by Harkins Theaters.

During the summer, Harkins theaters will show a series of movies. The titles are generally chosen for kids.

The movies start at 9:45 a.m. each weekday.

You can buy a package of tickets, but you must choose which day of the week that you prefer to attend in advance. The tickets cost $7 for the full ten movie series or $2 at the door on the day of the show.

By pre-paying for the full Summer season, the cost for each movie ticket is 70 cents!

There are no age limitations!, except that for security reasons, all adults must be accompanied by at least one child.

a few things to note:
*this is an excellent way to get kids out of the heat, if even for just a few hours!
*Moms are in attendance with kids of all ages, so it is informally understood - that this is not a "hushed" theater experience!
*tickets go on sale this Friday!

**PLEASE PARTICIPATE IN THE POLL!
obviously the theater at 83rd & Bell is close, but it can be extremely crowded every day of the week.
The theater at 101 & Northern is farther away, but is said to be less crowded.

By a slim margin - Wednesday wins it again!
This was the breakdown: Mon: 2 votes, Tues: 3 votes, Wed: 5 votes, Thurs. and Fri: each 4 votes.
Feel free to purchase tickets for any day that you wish, but know that you will spot more Sisters that you know on Wednesday.

Don't forget to vote!

P.S. - If you are a Sister that wants to attend, but does not have a child to bring with you - I bet I know a Sister or two that will let you borrow one of theirs!!

May Book Club Selection

Hi Sisters,

We have chosen this book for our May book club meeting.
I will let you know the date and place that we will hold the meeting.
As always, there will be treats, and a lot of laughs!

Please remember - you do not have to finish the book (you barely need to read it), nor do you need to be a "book club regular". You can join us any time!

If you have a copy of this book that you can share with another Sister, or you need a copy... please let Nicole know.

See you there!

How Can I Help?

We are so very fortunate that the Humanitarian effort of the Church is not only so complete, but so organized.

According to this website, items that would be most beneficial to the Church right now are:
full sized quilts.

By clicking here, you can find patterns for many of the items (including quilts) that the church will request.

The church has a surplus of the following items and does not currently need any more:
Children's toys
Receiving blankets and
Girl's hair accessories.

This information does get updated monthly. As the needs of people around the world change, so does the Humanitarian effort. Possibly something that is not needed now, will again be requested in the future.

By clicking here, you can find all of this information on LDS.org.

As the Oakwood Ward Relief Society we want to do all that we can to help out. We love that the Sisters are so enthusiastic about these service projects. We have had two recent Enrichment activities dedicated to service, and we are planning another in July. This seems like an excellent Missionary opportunity... a chance to bring friends unfamiliar with what the Church is all about.

On a trip to Mesa, Sister Andrews was informed that they are in need of the plastic canvas cubes that we have been working on. We have lots of cubes that need to be finished. If you are interested in a project that you can work on at home, let us know!

Hi Oakwood Ward Sisters!

Look! We have a blog! How exciting!

This is a brand new idea, and we are working diligently on putting together all of the GREAT information that you are going to be able to find here! So, for our first announcement!

Please don't forget!
